How long have you been working in education and what’s your current role?
I'm currently a year 2 teacher and literacy co-ordinator. This is my eighth year as class teacher but my twelfth year working in education.
What do you like most about being a teacher?
My kids. They make every day different and keep the job exciting.
What is your ethos and vision for education?
I think that happy children make the best learners and so I try to make learning as fun as I can.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I love drama so going to the cinema and theatre. I also love going to gigs but not on school nights!
How would your pupils describe you?
Very silly and probably quite strict. I like to make school fun but also have high expectations when it comes to behaviour.
What's your favourite subject to teach?
Literacy. I love how varied it is and how it enables the children to use their imaginations.
What was the best lesson you've ever taught?
Probably a drama lesson with a year 4 class I taught years ago. We were studying a book that centred around a plane crash in the Amazon so we blacked out the windows, climbed under the tables and imagined we were in the plane. The children loved it and were really inspired; they wrote some amazing stories afterwards.
What is your most used phrase in the classroom?
That's a tie between 'Wowzers' (I say this when I'm really impressed) and 'What a nana' (I call my children bananas if they get something wrong so that they don't dwell on their mistakes).
What piece of career advice has helped you the most?
Do what makes you happy. I love my job because it makes me happy.
What is a little known fact about you?
I love superhero movies, especially the Avengers. Captain
America is my favourite.
And finally.......just for fun…….
